“Do you know me?”, the campaign to promote Portuguese foods that is achieving success in Europe

  • The agri-food association Portugal Foods is promoting Portuguese gourmet products among journalists, opinion leaders and buyers from Germany, France, Spain and the United Kingdom.
  • 90% of international professionals surveyed have a very positive assessment of the campaign and the products received.

Portugal Foods, the association of companies from the Portuguese agri-food sector is launching an international awareness and consultation campaign called “Do you know me?”. By sending 62 hampers of gourmet products to journalists, opinion leaders and buyers from Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, the aim was to increase notoriety and promote exports to these markets. 

Fish conserves, oils and vinegars, sauces and condiments, ready meals, rice dishes and pastas, confectionery and sweets, marmalades and jams, nuts and snacks, coffees, waters and even seaweed formed the extensive list of products selected.

The initiative arose as a consequence of the limitations caused by Covid-19 faced with the difficulty of holding international events in person during the last few years.

“Our mission is to strengthen the competitiveness of companies in the Portuguese agri-food sector. Therefore, we continue to seek ways of helping them in their processes of internationalization and market diversification. Bringing Portuguese gourmet products to international opinion leaders by sending these product hampers has been one of the solutions we have chosen during the pandemic” explained Amândio Santos, president of Portugal Foods.

Finding out the opinion of professionals who tried the select products of Portugal was also one of the objectives of the initiative. To this end, journalists, opinion leaders and buyers included in the selection were asked to complete a questionnaire with their opinion on the campaign, the products received and the potential opportunities in their market. 

The data obtained showed that 90% of the professionals surveyed have a very positive assessment of the campaign and its products. The comments and observations made regarding the possibilities of each of the products will help the Portuguese agri-food companies to fine tune their promotion plans in the European markets selected.
