The Bart Ingredients Co. opens major new £15m production facility in Bristol

Herbs and spices specialist The Bart Ingredients Co. has officially opened a £15m state-of-the-art production facility in Bristol as part of its ambitious growth strategy.

The business has been transitioning its operations to the new 167,000 sq ft facility at Severn Beach after rising demand saw the business outgrow its previous facility in the city centre.

In its most recent financial results, The Bart Ingredients Co. saw turnover rise 33 per cent to £40m in 2020/1, as the pandemic lockdowns encouraged more people to cook at home.

The new facility is two-and-a-half times larger than its old factory and has been developed to help significantly enhance the sustainability of the business’s operations.

The whole of Bart Ingredients’ dry goods business will be housed at the facility, reducing carbon emissions associated with stock movement between sites and warehousing whilst improving operational efficiency.

Two brand new, fully automated high speed production lines have been installed to increase capacity and efficiency, 2 blending rooms, technical labs, and new product development kitchens mean that the business can work more agilely from concept to manufacture cross-departmentally.

Motion activated, energy efficient lighting has been installed throughout and an advanced air handling system has been installed to ensure fresh air and a constant temperature is delivered to all rooms within the facility.  The energy saving measures that have been installed mean Bart Severn Beach,  has achieved a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating, putting it in the top 25% of all energy efficient buildings.

David Collard, CEO at The Bart Ingredients Co., said: “Today is a major milestone for everyone at Bart Ingredients as we open a fantastic new facility that will be central to delivering our ambitious growth plans.

“We’re proud of our British heritage and the fact we have been providing our customers with a vast range of quality herbs, spices, seasonings and pastes for nearly 60 years. With this investment, we’re committing to an exciting, sustainable future for the business that positions us perfectly for further growth.”

Founded in 1963 in Bristol, The Bart Ingredients Co. has more than 180 herbs, spices seasonings and pastes in their Bart brand portfolio and also manufacture Private Label ingredients for major retailers and other brands. The business recently added to this by launching its seasonal limited edition, Bart Warming Winter Spice – the first ingredient to be developed from concept to launch at Severn Beach.

The Bart range of ingredients are stocked in Ocado, Waitrose, Booths, Co-Op and are also available on
